Finding Free Stuff

PLU's veteran poor folks are really good at knowing what types of things you can find for free or trade.

Free Furniture:

Freecycle - Most counties have something on this website.  Aside from coffee tables and sofas, Stacey has gotten bedding, baby clothes, homeschool supplies, crates of expired dry goods (yes, we are THAT poor), and landscaping items.  Try the one in your area.  If they're formal, they have a page on this site.  If no one has stepped up to organize your area, you me be routed to a yahoo group.

Craigslist - Every city has a "free" section.  You will have to pick the item up and it may not be top-of-the-line, however several PLU families have gotten couches, beds, televisions, dining room sets, etc.  If it's upholstery, be cautious and clean/treat the thing.  Bedbug, fleas, and lice are real.

Free/Cheap Magazines:

Free Magazine Website - There are hundreds here.  Some are e-zines or dull trade magazines, but if you dig around you'll find some things.  There are Christian titles, photography, horses, business, etc.
LEGO Club Magazine - it comes out 4 or 5 times each year.  The content changes sometimes, but we've gotten stickers, DVDs, and comic books. Free!

Peta Kids Magazine - stories of heroic animals and eating meat-free.  Stickers, stories, celebrities.

Free Samples:

Wicked Cool Deals is a website for couponers and schemers, but their "Free Stuff" section is full of places to get free samples of things like coffee, tampons, shampoo, etc.

Walmart - most are print out coupons that you redeem in the store, but others are mailed to you.

Target Samples - random household freebies

About Freebies - updated daily, there's always something here

Free Holidays:

Letter from Santa - There are 5 pre-done letters here that you can customize with your kid's name and print out.
